Namibian Express

Day 1
WINDHOEK – NAUKLUFT PARK- SESRIEM  (530 km)
Arriving in Namibian capital Windhoek. Tour of the historic city centre with its distinctive influence of German architecture.Then drive to the Namib Naukluft Park – the oldest desert in the world, housing about 200 species of animals. Walk to the Sesriem Canyon, sculpted for centuries by the river Tsauchab. Travellers can go down the stairs carved in the rocks and at the bottom admire the strange forms of the walls of the gorge. Overnight in Lodge near Sesriem.

Day 2
SOSSUSVLEI – WALVIS BAY  (350 km)
Departure at sunrise to the orange dunes of Sossusvlei, watching the sun rising over the highest dunes in the world, reaching more than 300 meters high. Climbing the dune from which we observe an unusual play of light on the edges of the sand hills. In the afternoon we drive through the oldest desert in the world, Naukluft and admire charming Kuiseb river gorge.In the afternoon we arrive in Walvis Bay, Namibia’s main port. We watch huge flocks of flamingos, pelicans and other water birds in the bay. Drive to Swakopmund – Coastal town that is a veritable oasis for any traveller after a long desert journey. We travel through a wonderful Sheltered promenade decorated with palm trees and flowers into the City and drive the main streets with it’s interesting German influenced architecture. Overnight in Swakopmund.

Day 3
SWAKOPMUND –MOON DESERT –WELWITSCHIAS (240 km)
After breakfast we drive to see unusual lunar desert landscapes and endemic, oldest, nearly one thousand years old plants: Welwitschias. Then we are leaving for the journey through the Skeleton Coast National Park. Moving towards the North through the vast and isolated coast, where we enjoy magnificent views of the dunes, the ocean, and shipwrecks. Such landscapes bring us to the Cape Cross – a multi-thousand colony of seals. Then we return to the area covered by savannah and mountains, until we get to the Brandberg Mountains – a spectacular collection of prehistoric rock paintings made by Bushmen four thousand years ago. Overnight in Khorixas.

Day 4
Petrified Forest – Twyfelfontein – Etosha (550 km)
A visit to the petrified forest, concealing the mystery in the form of huge, spanning up to 30 m petrified trees, which, according to researchers were moved there by the enormous flood about 200 million years ago. Fossils retain their perfect shape and details today. Visit at Twyfelfontein, yet aonther of the largest concentration of bushman’s rock engravings. Thereafter we set out for the most interesting section of the road which is inhabited by famous tribes; Herero and Himba. We stop in the villages to photograph women and children with unique hairstyles and bodies covered with red dust. From there we go to the Etosha Reserve: exceptional, combining the dense bush with large open areas of the bottom of the salt lake. Center of the park is the Etosha Pan (salt lake) – shallow depression about 4500 square kilometers, which is dry for most of the year, and filled with water to a depth of 1 m only during heavy rains. Plain attracts many animals and birds due to the richness in mineral salts and water. Dinner and overnight in the lodge outside of Etosha reserve.

Day 5
ETOSHA
Full day safari in the reserve, where we admire the unique and dramatic scenery (deep blue sky and white sands of the desert) in addition to countless herds of zebras, springboks, giraffes, wildebeest and elephants. The Reserve of an area of 22,000 km square has 144 species of mammals, over 340 species of birds and 110 species of reptiles. Watching the daily migrations of herds of animals on the open spaces of Etosha in search of water is an unforgettable experience. Dinner and overnight in the lodge near Etosha.

Day 6
ETOSHA – WINDHOEK  (ok. 450 km)
Early morning return through Otjiwarongo i Okahandia to  Windhoek.
In the evening transfer to the airport and flight to Europe
